We recently returned from our third BVI bareboat in 6 years and again had a perfect time. The hurricane damage eliminated several of our past overnight stops and is heartbreaking and sad, in certain areas. BUT, the aftermath of Hurricane Irma presented a different element to the trip, much of which made the trip special in its new way. The people (not only at BVIYC) in the BVI are always great but they were so appreciative of our presence. Some of favorite stops were back due to the resourcefulness of the locals and, in some cases, on the heels of donations from their land bound patrons far away. The short of it is - get back to the BVI. It's as great as ever! On this trip, we moved from one of the larger brand name charter companies (where we had good experiences in the past) to BVIYC mostly due to the boat design (Helia 44) and responsiveness of BVIYC in making that decision. We worked mostly with Khadine pre-trip and with Tony (welcome, boat orientation), Hannah in the office for the captain's meeting and Anthony, who maintains the fleet. All were great, thorough and friendly. We had an issue with our prop (fortunately on Tortola in Nanny Cay) but Anthony got it all worked out in person with a diver so that we were off to Peter Island within 2 1/2 hours from our call. We really enjoyed Island Odyssey. Not only is she new (first sail in December) but the design, especially the lounge space by the cockpit, made for a nice upgrade from our past cats. We will get back to the BVI's within a few years and we will do it with BVIYC! Cheers.
